Cat Makes Predictions for Oscars
I'm watching the Academy Awards as I type this blog. My husband and I try to see all of the nominees for best picture. We make predictions for most of the categories then watch the Oscars for the results. But there is so much fluff between the presentations of each award, I decided to surf the web. I found a site that has videos of Wilbur the Psychic Cat predicting the Best Actress and the Best Actor.
For the best actress, Wilbur will remove a straw from a compartment labeled with the actress's name. His prediction - Kate Winslet. The actual award goes to ..I'm watching right now...Kate Winslet. Wow!
Now I have to wait for Best Actor. Wilbur the Psychic Cat eats a lettuce leaf off the square with the photo of Frank Langella. The actual award goes to...waiting...Sean Penn. Man! I was a believer in Wilbur up to now.
I'm predicting the Reader will win. And the Oscar goes to...Slumdog Millionaire...not surprising, they won a lot of catagories tonight. Eight in fact.
Thank goodness that is over.

Lap Cats
I am fortunate that all five of my cats are lap cats. I think they prefer me more than the cat tree or their beds. Most often there is one cat curled up on me. Sometimes there are two, and rarely, wonderfully, three cats will warm my lap.
Here is a picture of Simon lounging on my husband. Don't you think Simon is smiling?

Weighing My Cat
My cat Simon seems to be thinner these days. I am concerned. Unexplained weight loss could be a symptom of hyperthyroidism. I started feeding him a bit more to see if I could bulk him up. He is the largest of the five, so more food makes sense. Now I need to weigh him every week or two, and monitor what I hope will be a weight gain.
To measure his weight, I need a decent scale. The one in my bathroom is an old digital scale and is unreliable. I considered getting a baby scale, but they are expensive, and I wasn't sure the cats would stay still on it. So I went to Bed Bath and Beyond today and bought a new digital scale. This scale is accurate (or so they claim) to 0.2 pounds, and it looks a whole lot nicer than my old one. I can hold a cat in my arms, note the weight, then subtract my own weight. I plan to track all five of my cats using Excel.
I will monitor Simon's weight for a while and see what happens. With the extra food I am giving him, he should look plump and healthy. If not, off to the vet we will go for some blood work.
If you want to know how much your cat should weigh, check out my post What Should My Cat Weigh.

My Smarty Cat
Ever wonder how smart your cat is? Go to my new website My Smarty Cat. My son came up with the idea and I just ran with it. At My Smarty Cat you can take an IQ test for your cat, check out interesting facts, ponder quotes about cat intelligence, and see videos of smart cats in action. It was a lot of fun creating the site, and I hope you have fun there too.

Simon and His Toy
Each of my cats have their own personality. Sure, they do the regular cat stuff: sleep most of the day, pretend they are starving every time I walk in the kitchen, kick the litter out of the box, and go nuts when they see a ladybug in the house. Simon has been with us now for almost two years. All my cats love toys, but Simon has his own way of playing with them.
Simon howls with the toy mouse in his mouth. Not meow, but RAUWWL!, MMMRRRROOWW!. As loud as he can. The first time he did this, we thought he was sick. Simon is not nauseous, he's having a good time. He howls several times, day and night. It wakes up my husband, so now the toys are put away at night so we can get some sleep. As soon as the toys come out again: MMMRRROOOOWWW! Imagine this with the Doppler Effect as he runs down the hall.
If he was out in the wild, I don't think he would have lasted very long. He announces himself to the prey.
